As you know families are responsible for their monument upkeep and repair. However you may notice in our oldest section, many monuments that are tipped and lichen covered. Most of these families are dispersed and unaware or uninterested in care of these stones. Many of the tipped stones are the result of burials without vaults. The containment units have decayed and crumbled allowing the covering earth to fall in and the stone to tip toward the burial. We have a preservationist who will come in and straighten a group of stones. This company does work all over the country from Pennsylvania and Kentucky to Mississippi up to Iowa and Minnesota. The cemetery needs donations so we can complete this project. We believe it will improve the cemetery’s appearance and help preserve our history. Please won’t you consider helping us in any way possible. small or large, your donations will be appreciated and you will help pass an improved cemetery to the next generation of Pine Island citizens.
