Last year we be began mowing and trimming the cemetery with the help volunteers - paid and unpaid. It was a great success and we will continue the program this year. We were able to do a very good job and still save about $6000. Again we need volunteers - our goal is 20 or more which would mean each would only need to mow about 1 session every 4 weeks. We would like volunteers, but will pay participants if you would so desire. The pay is $8.50/hour. We have 4 daytime slots of approximately 4 hrs - Wed AM, Wed Afternoon, Thurs AM, Thurs Afternoon and 3 evening slots, for those who have daytime commitments, of 2-4hrs depending on your availability and light conditions - Tues evening, Wed evening and Thurs evening. We want mowers to fill out a sign-up sheet so we may make a schedule for the summer - Please get this sheet back to us as soon as possible.
Occassional volunteers use this same sheet to notify us of your interest in volunteer work.

We need 3-5 people from the Pine Island AREA who have skills, experience and interest in landscape and plants. This is an ADVISORY ONLY - not a work committee who’s purpose is to suggest species, location, care and maintenance of Trees, shrubs, perennials and annuals. You don’t have to be from the city of Pine Island to serve. Please call Larry Stoddard @ 507-356-4492 for further information. Thank you!
Why do we ask for volunteers?
We need to restore our cemetery fund which has eroded over the years. Last year was the first year in a long time that we not only didn’t take money from our fund, but ended the year with cash in our checking. We did this by the grace of a number of people from the area who generously donated time to help us do the mowing and trimming etc.. We benefited from help from IBM employees who painted the garage and the City of Pine Island crew who helped us greatly. We discovered that the quality of the cemetery was improved and we had a closer connection to our cemetery patrons and we wish to expanded and improve what is already a beautiful cemetery into one of the best in this area. This is a great chance to help your community and learn something about the Pine Island area history - please consider joining us in this endeavor.
We still need 5 or 6 more people to help mow this summer - please consider joining us!
